I went outside to look at the moon —
she was hidden behind the clouds
but the point is:
there was a moat around my pain
still enough for me to remember
to look outside myself

The clouds were illuminated
like fluffy light boxes
and wind shooshed through
blackened silhouette tops of gum trees
gently swaying
while crickets panned left and right:
rhythmic screeches of C, D flat and E,
aleatoric surround-sound ear candy

A blue string of lights snakes unevenly round the gate;
left out since last year, it is relevant again
